Driving Optical Integration
GuideLink™ is the ideal platform to integrate complex optical circuits incorporating switches, modulators, and other devices. Manufacturing optical circuits for optimum price, performance, and integration is our goal.

Waveguides by the yard™
Typical ramps in the telecom and datacom markets look more like step functions than traditional manufacturing ramps. Our fabrication process inherently favors high volume manufacturing.

DistributionLink™ Custom fiber distibution systems
DistributionLink™ product line features perfect and custom shuffles with low insertion loss and skew in an incredibly small footprint as well as custom connectorized optical fiber ribbons.

GuideLink™ Waveguides
This waveguide technology is based on an acrylate-type polymer film. Single and multi-mode waveguides are fabricated in this flexible material for a variety of products which typically work from 600nm to 1650 nm.

Typical waveguide structures are easily integrated and exposed in sheets as large as 13”x16”. More complex elements such as gratings and lenses can be imaged during the manufacturing process as well, thus creating a completely embedded complex optical element. Micro-machining techniques are employed to facilitate passive alignment of embedded devices and connectors.Unique connectorization options facilitate the integration of our products into yours.

Critical Polymer Waveguide Attributes
Critical attributes for a cost effective high performance polymeric waveguide optical interconnection system technology must be satisfied for practical applications to meet rigorous implementation requirements. These attributes involve, for example, guide formation and performance, scalability for high volume manufacturing, connectorization, system application versatility, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

OXL’s unique polymer waveguide GuideLink™ system meets or exceeds these critical attribute requirements with a high level of performance and capability, as summarized in the linked pdf table, for each attribute.

Publications and presentations
The Polyguide™ /GuideLink™ publication and presentation file contains all relevant items that we are aware of regarding polymer waveguides and applications using the Optical CrossLink (OXL) technology referred to as GuideLink™ and when the OXL team was at DuPont referred to as Polyguide™.

The first publication was in 1988. During the next few years presentations primarily were on single mode waveguide technology and devices. Starting around 1993, publications included both multimode and single mode work. Single and multimode applications and technology was described in presentations, publications, and book chapters covering bubble switches, polymeric (single mode) thermal switches, splitters, gratings and connectivity issues though the mid 1990's. Early multimode circuit board applications potential was demonstrated with DEC and published in 1994.

A number of publications from the mid 1990's and beyond were related to the DARPA funded POLO (Parallel Optical Link Organization) and POINT (Parallel Optical Interconnect Technology) where robust packaging was introduced along with I/O deflecting mirrors, MT connectorization, and initial circuit board interconnections using multimode guides.

Authors included those from all involved organizations such as HP (Aglient), AMP (Tyco/AMP), SDL, USC, and DuPont. Developmental and thesis work at the U.of Ghent in Belgium described a number of practical interconnectivity topics and in particular results for star coupler devices. Recent publications have emphasized multimode technology, packaging, connectivity and growing applications capability and potential for chip and board level interconnections, stacked circuits and high density and board to board connectivity.
